Goal Setting & Achievement For School District 301

District 301 currently has no comprehensive 5-year Strategic Plan in place to govern district decisions and set clear, specific, and measurable performance goals.  The last time our district set and published any goals was in the academic year 2017-2018 and it consisted of 5 goals established by the Board of Education.

No school district is perfect, but there are basic, foundational documents and information that must be in place in order to guide the direction everyone is headed.   There must be a master plan for the district that is the basis for any and all decisions made by the Board of Education.  The plans always include significant feedback from the community, parents, teachers, and students.  Data such as RSP's Enrollment Forecast also become a relevant document in that planning.

What are the district's goals?  How will we measure if we are achieving them? Do the teachers know the goals? Our principals?  Parents? Students?  How are these goals supported by curriculum, staff, space, and more?  How is the budget spending tied to supporting and achieving these goals?  How are those goals created with the community, teachers, staff, and students?  How are the communicated back to that same group? How are we benchmarking progress and reporting that to the community and making adjustments to stay on-target with our goals?

The Strategic Plan is a living document that guides the decisions of the district to ensure goals are achieved and is revisited and updated regularly to keep the district moving forward.

Any question that needs answering related to teachers, environment, staffing, space considerations, curriculum, extra-curricular activities and so on should be based upon the Strategic Plan.

Take a look at some of the Strategic Plans for our neighboring districts:

D304 (Geneva)

D300 (Hampshire)

Recently, U-46 moved forward with selecting a company to help them update their strategic plan to provide a road map for the next 10 to 15 years of long-term goal setting.  It's a great example of how this process should look.  Read their Request for Proposal for a look at what Central 301 could be undertaking.

To improve and maintain positive student outcomes, our district must put the effort into community surveys and engagement and begin building a 5-Year Strategic Plan together with teachers, staff, parents, students, and community members.
