I know you care about our community as much as I do, so I wanted to make sure you know that there is an important issue on the  November 5th ballot. We will decide whether or not to take on a QUARTER OF A BILLION DOLLARS ($225 million) in property tax debt to build a 450,000 SF high school that we don’t need, even though an independent enrollment forecast shows Central High School has plenty of space for the next 10 years:

  • Room for 20 years of growth at CHS promised for $22 million in 2016, but it only lasted 4 years.
  • 1,788 people voted NO for this same referendum in April 2023
  • 3,479 people voted NO for this same referendum in March 2024
  • Our district wasted $4 million in taxpayer funds to develop plans for a high school that has been voted down TWICE and they are about to put it to a vote for a THIRD time
  • They bought 300+ unneeded acres for $5 million
  • They sold 134+ acres for future expansion at a $3 million loss
  • Meanwhile, we have the highest teacher turnover in Kane County, 43% of our students are not proficient in reading*, and 57% are not proficient in math* (Source: ISBE 2023 Report Card)

I believe we should invest in our students & teachers, not mega campuses.  We deserve a better plan that uses a phased-growth approach that will address our issues in a financially responsible manner, allowing us to invest more money where it belongs -- supporting our students & teachers in the classroom!
