I know you care about our community as much as I do, so I wanted to make sure you know that there is an important issue on the  March 19th ballot. We will decide whether or not to take on a $195 million debt to build a 450,000 SF high school that we don’t need, based on inaccurate data, in a district with a track record for “getting it wrong”:

  • Room for 20 years of growth at CHS promised for $22 million in 2016, but it only lasted 5 years.
  • $930 gross tax impact for a home valued at $360K
  • After 1,788 people voted NO for this same referendum 1 year ago, we’ve spent millions in development costs on the SAME PLAN
  • 300+ unneeded acres bought for $5 million
  • 140+ acres for future expansion sold at a $3 million loss
  • Minimum $2.5 million increase in operating costs for utilities & maintenance alone that will hit our taxes later
  • Meanwhile 43% of our students are not proficient in reading* and 57% are not proficient in math* (Source: ISBE 2023 Report Card)

I believe we should invest in our students & teachers, not mega campuses.  We deserve a better plan that uses a phased-growth approach that will address our issues in a financially responsible manner, allowing us to invest more money where it belongs -- supporting our students & teachers in the classroom!
